In La Walck, the shoe has a glorious history stretching back over more than 100 years. Until the 80s, companies in this sector were amongst the largest employers in northern Alsace. But the recession led to delocalisation and redundancies in a number of factories, plunging the Val de Moder into a difficult economic situation.

Through the creation of the ADEC, the Val de Moder has provided itself with a development organisation, which has helped it to re-launch economic dynamism within the framework of a determined project set for a long-lasting future. Out of 600 jobs recreated in this old shoe industry employment basin, more than 10% are high value added jobs linked to information technologies.
